We're thrilled to share that we now have more stories offered than there are Pokemon available in Generation One! Don't worry, this doesn't mean you can't still participate if you were considering it - it just means writers offering multiple stories might not be assigned as many as they offered.

Signups will remain open for another four days (here's a countdown).

Over a third of the 151 have podfic offers too! 🎉

If you enjoy STATS, here are the Pokemon that have been most offered by our writer participants so far:
  • Most offered: Eevee (44% of writers)
  • 2nd most offered: Ninetales and Flareon (35%)
  • 3rd: Vulpix (34%)
And the most popular Pokemon offered by our podficcers:
  • Most offered: Jigglypuff (57% of podficcers)
  • 2nd most offered: Charmander (50%)
  • Joint 3rd: Oddish, Squirtle, Vulpix, Ninetales, and Mew (43%)

If you're looking for a beta for your PokéPod Project story or interested in beta-reading/listening for someone else, this is the post for you!

Stories and podfic created for this event do not have to be beta read/listened, though it's always good to get a second pair of eyes/ears. If you need a beta, check the comments on this post. If you'd like to help out by offering beta services, (thank you!) please leave a comment here so our participants can find and reach out to you. You do not have to be signed up or have a DW account to offer to beta.

We recommend including the following info when offering beta services:
- Your name
- How to contact you
- What kind of beta you're offering (e.g., spelling, punctuation, and grammar (SPAG), pacing, specific Pokémon canon expertise)
- How long you need to work.

The deadline for writing is 17 August. Stories cannot be edited after this date as they will be forwarded to our podficcers to read. The deadline for podfic is 1 October.

We have added clarification to our rule on archive warnings.

The rule now reads:

Works should not include any of AO3’s archive warnings (Graphic Depictions of Violence, Major Character Death, Rape/Non-Con, and Underage.) Canon-typical violence, such as battling, is fine. Canonical themes of death and grief, such as the ghosts of Pokemon Tower or Cubone's deceased mother, are fine.

The bolded text is the newly added clarification.

Thank you!

Signups are now open for both writers and podficcers! They will close for writers at 20:00PM UTC on Sunday 25 August. Click here for a countdown. Signups for podficcers close at the writing deadline on Tuesday 17 September.

As our event isn't a traditional AO3 exchange or prompt challenge, signups will take place via Google Forms. Assignments will be sent via email, though final works (fic and podfic) must be posted to our AO3 Collection. If you do not already have an AO3 account and would like one, please contact a mod to request an invite code.

Signups for Podficcers - Now Closed

Welcome to The PokéPod Project, a collaborative, multi-medium project that aims to create a fic about each of the original 151 Pokémon plus a podfic (audiobook version) of each. Once the project is complete, a podfic anthology will be created containing all 151 stories in Pokedex order.

 Schedule

14 Aug: Writer & Podficcer Signups Open
25 Aug: Writer Signups Close
27 Aug: Latest writing assignments go out
17 Sep: Writing Deadline & Podficcer Signups Close
1 Oct: Podfic deadline (2 weeks creation period)
8 Oct: Anthology + Collection revealed

(All times 20:00PM UTC)

 How this works

Writers sign up to create between 1 – 5 stories about a Pokémon from Generation One. Each story should focus on the individual Pokémon they have been assigned to write about, be between 100 – 1000 words, and be posted to the project’s AO3 collection by the deadline. All participating writers must consent to their work being podficced - this means a fellow Pokémon fan will perform a reading of the story and post it as a separate work using AO3's “inspired by” function.

Podficcers sign up to record between 1 – 5 stories written for the PokéPod Project.

Once all stories have been written and podficced, they will be revealed alongside the anthology, unleashing 151 new stories and 151 new podfics into the world for Pokémon lovers to read and/or listen to!

Please read the rules below in full before signing up, even if you're an event veteran. As this is not a traditional AO3 exchange/challenge, there are parts of the creation process that will differ from what you're used to, from sign-ups to posting.
